BOULEVARD

When I began practicing Landscape Architecture in Nova Scotia, I was surprised to discover that there were no formal boulevard gardening initiatives in place.

Inspired by a meeting with Sarah Bergmann - I made it my mission to implement perennial gardens throughout the urban streetscape in Downtown Dartmouth, linking natural habitats through a series of parking strip sized perennial gardens, that offer habitat for indigenous species and pollinators.

I approached Sam Austin (city councillor), gave him my pitch, and we agreed to begin working on this initiative together.

Flash forward seven years, and the initiative has begun to take hold. In October of 2022 HRM (Halifax Regional Municipality) granted us enough money to give away over 300 native and pollinator perennials. find more info about garden making in the urban streetscape.
