When I was working at larger design offices, I wasn’t able to get my hands dirty very often. My days were filled with drafting, meetings, redlines, and presentation packages. In 2018 I bought a house on a street named after a flower, on this site I built a garden. This was my release, my therapy and my gym. When I got home from 8 hrs + / - behind the desk. This garden has been my teacher, helping me understand the power of soil building, 4”+ of mulch multiple times a year for the win. I have also been able to live with my decisions, understand how much maintenance is really required for a naturalistic north eastern meadow.What kind of aggregates feel good under bare feet? and how long does it take a wood chip trail to break down.
I no longer live in this house, so its program has changed, as has its maintenance regime, and it continues to show me the way.
